We are a private billing practice. Rebates are available through Medicare for some services.
Consultations that are not eligible for a Medicare rebate including insurance, travel, diving and employment medicals; also attract a GST of 10%.
In circumstances where the patient has a compensable injury, the practice will endeavour to bill the workplace or insurer directly only where a claim number is provided and liability accepted. Any shortfall in money received will however remain the responsibility of the patient.
The Herald Avenue Family Practice offers Medicare Online claiming. Patients can choose to have their medicare claim processed electronically at the time they settle their account. For further information on Medicare Online claiming and how you can register your details with Medicare, visit the Medicare Australia website.
Referrals and Prescriptions
A consultation is usually required for issuing repeat prescriptions and referrals. However this issuing of prescriptions outside of a consultation may be available in some circumstances.
Generally it is better to see the doctor for a repeat prescription or referral so as to assess whether there is a continuing need for the medication and also to review the medical condition. We believe regular review of patients and their medications is an important part of our continuing medical care
Prescriptions and referrals issued outside of a consultation will typically incur the following fees:
Prescription Fee $15.00
Referral Fee $20.00
Most medical problems are best cared for at the surgery, where more equipment is available. We have a room where you can wait in privacy if you are not well enough to sit in the waiting room. Please let the receptionist know.
If you do need a home visit, it helps if you can ring the practice preferably at 8:00 am or at least before 2:00 pm so that the doctor can visit before or after normal surgery hours. If a home visit is more urgent and required during normal hours, our locum service will only attend on our behalf if contacted by practice staff.
Private fees apply for home visits, please make an enquiry with the receptionist at the time of booking.
